Here is some artwork that I've done recently. Haven't done as much as usual because I've had a LOT of dental appointments and haven't had as much time as usual. One thing I learned from a gal was somewhere I mentioned that I found some neat scrapbook paper that I liked and only bought one sheet. Well, I decided to go back and buy more other wise I wouldn't use it. Then this friend of mine said something like she uses even her good stuff in collages. Duh!!! That is one thing that I told myself I would do this year and forgot all about it! So I started my "good" stuff. So in one piece I used a picture that I really liked and sure enough, two days later I found the same picture in an ad that I got in the mail!!! Taught me a good lesson!

I haven't been posting my pages from my BOD, Book of Days, because most everything I write in them are personal. I'm loosely following it, but find it lots of fun!!!

My other journal, the Junque journal is taking LONGER than I thought it would to prepare. Had to go to Jo Ann's to pick up some scrapbook paper. Sure, I have scrapbook paper, but they are double sided and really too thick for this. Just today, I got those pages taped in. Now to color in the other pages. Then I can start putting stuff into it! The one the woman shows, has taken two years for her to put stuff into, and it isn't done yet, so I don't mind taking my time. It's not something you do everyday, unless you want to. I did have some unexpected luck. Jo Ann's had a sale on paper, so I got that for 4 for a $1 and I found one pattern that I just LOVE!!! I decided to go back this morning to pick up a few more sheets of it. If I don't do that, I'll just hang on to the one sheet and never use it! I have another pattern that I got months ago, and I liked it so much that I taped it to my closet door! Luckily I have more it and have used it, a little. I do have one ATC to show and hopefully by the end of the week, I'll have some art work done and I'll show you that! Have a great Super Bowl weekend!!! I don't plan to watch. I'll make ART!!! More exciting to me!

It's so funny because at the beginning of the year, I finally decided that I'm NOT a journal girl. It just didn't "fit" me at all. Now I'm working on two journals and really having a ball! The "Book Of Days" is for every day and I'm not going to be able to use one book for the whole year. I'm half way through it already! Will have to hit the Dollar store for another book soon!!! Then I find this Junque journal. Perfect because I can do it as I please. I even had on hand all the stuff I need for it. Anyways, fun stuff for me!!! Keeps my mind off the dentist tomorrow!!!

Got my new glasses yesterday. Far away stuff looks so clear. Reading part of it, a bit fuzzy and I still have to read about 12" from my face. Nothing goes right with me with the medical stuff. Oh well, I'm not dwelling on it. Time to have fun after I wash the towels and clothes and stuff. Nice to look forward to something fun!!!!!!!!!

Also, last night I happened to see an ad on TV for this show called "House of Anubus". It's on the Nick Channel for teens. Yes, I admit it. I do watch kids shows though I have none at home. No violence, sex, etc. I tend towards show like Warehouse 13, Eureka and Once Upon a Time. Anyways, the second season begins on Jan. 9. But I never saw the first season!!! Thanks goodness for cable TV!!! They are showing all of the first season on Sunday!!! I'm going to tape what I can since it is all day and my tapes are only 6 hrs long. I know, I'm old school. I'm BC. That is Before Computers. Anyhow, it looks like it is a boarding school for teenagers and mysterious things happen.

Having fun with my BOD. Think I mentioned it before. Just checked. I didn't mention it. It is FREE!!! It's an art journal how to that lasts all year! Somethings you may like, some not. I'm learning some new things and her style is so great that I feel very free to do what I want in it. I won't be showing it, because it is personal, but fun to do! Now to find the time!

December is always busy even though I try, I really try to make it as stress free as I can. I have all my Xmas cards out and one package sent. The package really isn't for Xmas for this gal, but I've been wanting to send it to her for a year! I usually never procrastinate, but a lot of things have happened this year. In the mean time, I'm "trying" to make an ATC every day. They are getting simpler as the month goes on, but these are the ones I made in late Nov. I was totally inspired by April Cole, date, Nov. 26. She's got a great blog, as do all my friends!!!

Here is the newest tag that I've made for a friend. I don't think she looks at my blog, so I feel safe she won't see it until she gets it. Want to work on some other tags with paint and stuff soon. I don't have a "fixed" idea in my head. I'll just play it by ear.

There is a storm coming in here and we finally turned on the heat. It has messed up our phone lines. There is so much static on our line. Luckily I have a cell phone for emergencies!

New Ideas

I tried something new the other day in art for the Rolodex cards. It didn't turn out the way I thought it would. I was stumped. What to do next? I felt like I ran out of ideas!!! Then I do what I do when I'm stuck. I start organizing and sorting. I used to throw out stuff, but I have gotten to the point that I'm down to the basics. Really, all I need is paper and glue. So as I'm going through stuff, I see something. I don't remember where I saw it or exactly when. I think it was Divine intervention. Well, that started me thinking about a whole new thing to try!!! First I had to finish my sorting and organizing and I started something this morning. I won't know how it will look for awhile and I'm not saying what it is. I did that once, and the "magic" of the idea went out the window!!! So for now, I'm just glad I have some new ideas!!! Now if I can find enough energy to do much. It's so hot here. Haven't gotten used to it yet. Usually it takes a few weeks to get used to it, and getting older doesn't help! But I'm happy and lots of neat stuff to think about. Also got some great "art" mail in the mail which really made me so happy!!! Until later....

I still want to work in my journal, but just haven't had the time. I'm trying to do one side of a Rolodex Card a day and see how it goes. After two days, I'm doing fine! We'll see what happens down the line!

Here is my latest batch of cards. Today I have to prepare some journal pages. I have a gut feeling that I have to express myself with words. Feels better when I do. I doubt if I'll put these up because they are personal. We'll see.

Hope you aren't getting sick of rolodex cards but I'm not! I was working on something different for backgrounds. I wanted to paint some of them. Then I realized that I was close to be out of some paint. I usually buy Americana. They are cheap, sort of. $1.29 a bottle. I made a list and then lost the list. So I tried to figure out which ones I needed. Wrote down the list and found out that many of the names aren't there. They like to "change" the names of them. Next time I'll have to put on my list a sample of the color. I've found out quite awhile ago, for example that I can't mix a golden color. Should be able to mix yellow and a bit of black but most blacks have blue in them so you come out with a greenish color. And for the most part, you can't make purple from red and blue. Maybe in oil or watercolor, but not acrylic. So I have to buy purple. Hints from taking a color class. Picked up a metallic paint from Folk Art. That wasn't cheap, but I only picked up one to see how it was. I was having trouble figuring out different color combinations then I thought, look at my scrapbook papers! Found a package at JoAnn's that looked pretty good, so I'll try matching those colors to see what happens. The pics included here don't have my painting ones included. One more tip in case you are a novice to painting. If you want to make a color lighter, like from a medium blue to a light blue, start with white and slowly add the blue. Always start with the lightest color first and slowly add the darker color. Of course this doesn't always work if both colors have the same intensity. Take all of this with a grain of salt though. I'm NOT a painter, but I did take a color class in school. So here are some pics!
Some of these cards are near duplicates of cards that I exchanged with some friends. Didn't want to post them until they received them.

More Rolodex

These are the last of my first batch of Rolodex cards. I've started a new batch that will now cover the whole card. If you notice, one of these has a five pointed star on it. I've fallen in love with this star since I first saw it and then saw it again in Brian's collage. I wanted one so bad! Then I realized that I have a stencil of a star that is about an inch and a half. I traced around it on old paper, made all the lines and filled them in with a black pen. It took awhile, but I think it was worth it! I made a few more to use later.

You can see that I've been busy with the Rolodex cards! I think I've come obsessed with them! These are the latest that I've done. I think I need a maid though. It's hard to do housework, wash, etc. and still do my artwork! I was good today and got all my chores out of the way first, even my exercises. Now I'm working on an image that I saw in someone's collage. This guy is so talented!!! Check him out if you want. He does collages and they are great!

Here is another Rolodex card that I finished. I'm having a lot of fun with them! On the one that has the "ticket" on it, I didn't want it to be as thick as it is normally, so I sanded the back of it. Paper is stronger than you think. I sand down glossy surfaces so they glue better, and sand thick paper on the back. I'm not talking about "fine" sandpaper, but about 60 grit paper! Rolodex cards

Here are some of the Rolodex cards that I've done. I thought you might get an idea of how I did them. First, I already had white rolodex cards. For some reason, I thought they would look nicer if I used a black marker and colored the bottom section. I knew I couldn't cover the whole page with paper because that would cover up the holes and I don't have a Rolodex punch. I think they cost about $9 and I didn't want to spend the extra money unless I really want to do a bunch of these. Try as I may, I tried to use a circle punch and other punches and I'm actually getting close to figuring it out. But not for now. So first I covered the bottom section with a black marker. One newer ones, I may just leave it white. Then I found some scrap paper and glued the top part of the card making sure that the bottom section was straight with just above the holes. I didn't bother with lining up the sides and top. Once it was glued down, I turned the card over and cut off the excess paper on the top and sides. Then I did the same thing on the blank side. For the first one, I rounded off the top corners, but after that, I figured it didn't matter, so I left them straight. I did this to about a half a dozen cards and later I'm adding little bits of paper to them. Then I put them under some weights to dry completely for 48 hours. I used gel medium for glue, because a glue stick just doesn't seem to stick for very long here. Probably because it is so dry here. When I dry my collages under weights, I use a sandwich technique. I first put down a piece of paper towels, then wax paper, then the collage, then wax paper, then a paper towel. The wax paper is there so if there is any glue around, it will be easy to take off. The paper towel is there to absorb any moisture. I then put it under a heavy book like a dictionary. I'm having fun with them!
